2020 Ford F-150 will get a hybrid powertrain

The Ford F 150 lineup is the largest selling range of light-duty trucks in the US and it has managed to withstand competition from rival Chevy Silverado 1500 and FCA’s Ram 1500 lineup with success. The 2018 lineup of the F-150 lineup has received huge praise from all quarters and the company has started preparing the 2020 Ford F-150 already.

2020 Ford F-150 changes and updates

The test prototype of upcoming 2020 Ford F-150 has been spotted in Detroit. The spy shots captured indicate the design changes clearly- the layer of padding notwithstanding. The test model is a Limited trim model. It is clear Ford is incorporating changes already adopted by its major rivals- aka FCA and GM. The test model of 2020 F-150 has integrated rear bumper exhaust.

This integrated dual exhaust makes the truck look more stylish and it is likely that the final model will wear different alloy wheels. Compared to the RAM 1500 and GMC trucks, the Ford model has the exhaust at the corner of the bumper.

As expected, the 2020 Ford F-150 will be sold in several trims- thereby offering buyers enough options to pick from. Ford will also offer the truck in several nice hues. The available configurations are diverse. Of course, the cabin of the truck will also sport some changes. While King Ranch and Lariat trims get plush materials, base trims will also have decent soft touch materials in the cabin.

2020 Ford F-150 EcoBoost engine

The 2020 Ford F-150 will come equipped with the company’s tried and tested 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. It will be clubbed with the 10-speed automatic transmission unit. The output is 375 HP.

While the Limited trim gets bigger 22-inch wheels that may not be the case with other trims of the lineup. However, the Raptor version will be much powerful with 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that can produce 450 horsepower at 510 lb-ft of torque. We also expect a 5.0-liter V8 version that is currently in this year model offering 395 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. This model gives EPA city/high fuel economy of 17/23 mpg (2WD), 16/22 mpg (4WD).

Hybrid version

Ford manufacturer may also offer a hybrid setup later. There is a rumor that five upcoming models in the line of Ford will be offered with a hybrid powertrain and one of them will be F-150. However, at this moment there is no word is the company will use the same 3,5-liter engine or something else.

Furthermore, our official estimate is that torque will fall in the 350 – 420 lb-ft. range. Also, one of these five vehicles will get a battery electric vehicle.
