Next-Generation 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 To Be Far More Aggressive Than The Sierra 1500

The heavy-duty pickup truck segment is getting better and better. So many automakers are entering the race for the best pickup, offering both light and heavy-duty models. Some of the models are entering production and some of them are already caught on the test drive. One such a fine example is the anticipated 2020 GMC Sierra 3500.

The heavy-duty model is clearly based on the regular Sierra 1500 light-duty pickup. This is a good thing as the Sierra 1500 model is one of the best-looking models in the segment. As the spy shots are showing, GMC opted for some of the upper trims as this is hardly a Sierra 3500 in its regular look. The full-size pickup will get a lot of upgrades and it will be available in four trims and three cab configurations.

2020 GMC Sierra 3500 Will Get A Slightly Different Headlight And The Grille

The forthcoming 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 comes with the attractive exterior design. Most of the pickup looks aggressive, far more aggressive than the Sierra 1500. For sure, this is a heavy-duty pickup, a real workhorse that is both larger and meaner.

However, unlike its predecessor, new Sierra 3500 will get a slightly different shape of the headlight units and the grille will be larger. The grille comes with additional chrome accents and LED headlights will be standard. In the back, most of the things will remain and the Corner Step system is all-new and it is optional.

The side profile is offering standard 18-inch wheels. Upper trims are available with the 19-inch wheels. Just like before, Sierra 3500 will offer a lot of additional equipment and special packages.

2020 GMC Sierra 3500 Interior Design and Changes

From the inside, the arriving pickup truck will use Sierra 1500 model as an inspiration. That means some additional updates will have to happen. The spy shots didn’t show the cabin photos, but you can expect some changes in terms of design. The shape of the vents and some other features will be different. Even the interior layout will be different.

The base model is far from luxury, but such a robust and rugged workhorse as the Sierra 3500 is still offering one of the best interiors in the segment. Cloth upholstery is offered as standard while the leather upholstery is optional.

2020 GMC Sierra 3500 Denali

Real luxury starts with the famous Denali trim that is far pricier as well. Denali models are available with the heated steering wheel, more wood trims, leather seats with contrast stitching and premium audio system. Crew cab models are offering room for six persons while the regular cab can accommodate three passengers.

Unlike the interior and exterior, the engine department will stay intact. That means the 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 will offer the same three powertrains as before. All three engines are V8 and the base 6.0-liter returns 300 horses and 333 lb-ft of torque.

The first optional powertrain is the same 6.0-liter that is slightly re-tuned. It can produce up to 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the 6.6-liter Duramax V8 is the last and the best option. This turbodiesel engine delivers 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque.

Towing Capacity and Transmission

Thanks to the high torque number, the newest model 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 can tow almost 23,500 pounds. A 6-speed automatic gearbox is a standard choice on all three units.
