The 2020 GMC Sierra will make an official debut at the New York auto show next March. The upcoming full-size pickup truck will be equipped with plenty of new materials. The lighter weight is expected, just like an optional MultiPro tailgate, a carbon fiber bed, and aluminum cargo box.
Top-range Denali and SLT trim levels are available, and the base model will obtain numerous features and technologies. The exterior comes with fresh styling that will make an instant stand out. The interior is comfortable as expected, and the performance is also boosted thanks to a new 3.0-liter diesel engine.
2020 GMC Sierra exterior updates
There will be plenty of aesthetic updates on the new 2020 GMC Sierra. As a part of the generational changeover, the new exterior will include numerous changes that will make the pickup truck to look bolder and bigger. However, the front is highlighted by a new and bigger chrome grille with a polished surround. The hood is taller and the top of it looks rounded.
Few muscle lines are running all over the hood and back to the windshield. Taillights are also new, adding a premium appearance at the rear. A new MultiPro tailgate is perhaps the biggest exterior innovation. This tailgate is dubbed as “the most innovative tailgate ever made”. The LED lighting system on the upcoming 2020 GMC Sierra is standard and that includes even fog lamps and daytime running lights. An optional 22-inch wheel is also available, and Denali models are offering darker chrome accents.
2020 GMC Sierra interior and techs
The all-new 2020 GMC Sierra is arriving with a lot of improvements inside the cabin. The interior looks upscale with some nice finishes, shapes and the overall treatment. A luxury is even better with the famous Denali trim. New Sierra also offers the best-in-class legroom and headroom up front and higher trim levels are adding leather seats as a standard.
Crew Cab model adds 3 extra inches of rear legroom and better cargo area. A multi-color display is standard, along with the rear-camera mirror. Infotainment system supports the newest phone connectivity such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Safety is better thanks to a Blind Zone Alert, Low-Speed Automatic Braking and a Pedestrian Control. All Denali models get a new 8.0-inch infotainment screen with navigation and voice recognition.
2020 GMC Sierra engine options and output
The upcoming 2020 GMC Sierra model comes with a few engine options. Furthermore, the new 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel engine will take a place next to the existing 6.2-liter and 5.3-liter V8 powertrains. V8s engine comes with the latest start/stop technology and Dynamic Fuel Management. A 5.3-liter unit produces up to 355 HP while a 6.2-liter can return 420 HP.
A six-cylinder diesel engine comes from famous Duramax lineup of engines. Duramax is already powering Sierra HD and Canyon models, so this is the only logical outcome for 2020 Sierra. A 10-speed automatic transmission comes with 6.2-liter and 3.0-liter diesel engines, while the 5.3-liter engine will benefit from an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
In the field of towing capacity, the new model has a little rival. It comes with 5.3-liter V8 that is capable to maximum tow 11,100 pounds, while the much powerful 6.2-Liter V8 can tow 12,500 pounds. The towing numbers of the newest 3,0-liter engine at this moment is unknown. But we expect more information soon.
