The Korean automaker has big plans for the 2019 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Hyundai is willing to introduce latest changes on this pickup truck. That will include more stylish appearance and the platform that underpins the current Tucson model.
While it may sound strange, the new Santa Cruz will become both crossover and a pickup truck. The company is willing to translate the concept into the production. With that in mind, new Santa Cruz is the perfect example of the Hyundai’s direction and the new design language.
2019 Hyundai Santa Cruz will use the same platform as the Hyundai Tucson
The all-new 2019 Hyundai Santa Cruz will borrow the platform from the Hyundai Tucson. The plan is to deliver a pickup truck with the crossover-like styling cues and driving manners, so this move seems very logical. A revolutionary design is still a couple of months away from the final product and we are anticipating to see the first results.
Korean car maker is eager to introduce this pickup truck on the Australian market first, so the right-hand drive is what we expect. We don’t know when will new Santa Cruz arrive on the American soil. Furthermore, numerous trim levels are expected, along with the two different body styles. A dual-cab configuration with the all-wheel-drive system is, for now, the most likely outcome.
2019 Hyundai Santa Cruz interior
Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the interior of the all-new 2019 Hyundai Santa Cruz. However, a couple of trim levels means that there will be a lot of options for the buyers. That includes leather upholstery that will probably be optional, along with the latest infotainment system.
As this is still a pickup truck that we are speaking of, expect storage bins and other truck-like amenities. Upper trims will arrive with the ambient lighting, wood trims, and other upscale cues and features. There will be room for five persons across the two rows of seats.
2019 Hyundai Santa Cruz under the hood
If the information is true, the 2019 Hyundai Santa Cruz is likely to borrow the engine from the Santa Fe model. A 3.3-liter powertrain could hit the production and it is a good thing. This engine is rated at 285 horsepower. Moreover, a diesel engine will happen for sure and it will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit.
Diesel variant will come with slightly fewer horses but the torque number will for sure exceed the standard unit’s numbers. Korean carmaker is yet to announce the rest of the engine specs and that includes top-speed and fuel economy. On the other hand, we can expect great fuel economy figures, as Hyundai announced that this is the category where the improvements are a must.
2019 Hyundai Santa Cruz price and release date
The concept was presented in 2015 and the 2019 Hyundai Santa Cruz will roll out in the coming months. As we wrote, this pickup truck will firstly go on sale in Australia. The rest of the world (including the U.S.) will have to wait probably for 2020. While the price is a big mystery, experts are predicting the price about $30,000, more or less.
