Before 25 years, Jeep ended the production of the Comanche pickup truck. However, in 2016 the famous carmaker presented seven concept vehicles, among them the Comanche concept. Now, according to the latest news, the 2020 Jeep Comanche is a very realistic thing to happen soon. Back in the 90s, Comanche was a rear-wheel-drive pickup with the modern design that was based on the Cherokee compact SUV. A similar outcome will happen once again.
The 2020 Jeep Comanche will borrow plenty of stuff from the Jeep Renegade. It will arrive as a two-door truck with the astonishing exterior design. We had an opportunity to see the concept at the Easter Jeep Safari annual event in Utah. The interior looks upscale and very inviting. Of course, even the cabin will borrow a Renegade’s design. Most importantly, Renegade’s 2.0-liter turbodiesel will most likely power the upcoming Comanche.
2020 Jeep Comanche remind us of the Renegade SUV
It may look hard to imagine a pickup truck with the exterior similar to the Jeep Renegade SUV. But it is happening. The speculations are saying the Jeep’s engineers and designers already started to transform a crossover SUV into the pickup truck. The front end holds a concept’s front fascia and not the Renegade’s one. That means there won’t be fog lights but the tow hooks are in place. The grille is stock, just like the hood.
The hood will most likely come in matt black with the large “Comanche” lettering. Plenty of body-color features will be in the offer for sure. The scrapped roof should make more space for cargo bed. The rooftop is removable and it is connected to the windshield. A classic military-esque piece of styling. The Comanche will arrive with a longer wheelbase, 16-inch wheels, and steel bumpers.
2020 Jeep Comanche offers great interior
While Jeep didn’t provide any interior images we had an opportunity to see the interior at the Easter Jeep Safari event. We saw lower bucket seats with the canvas coverings.
The dash and center console are very similar to the Renegade’s one. Those things are likely to stay unchanged. Renegade comes with a great interior that is both comfortable and modern. We still don’t know it the Comanche will be based on the regular Renegade or on some of the upper trim levels. That would surely help us to determine the level of luxury. But either way, we should expect a very pleasing cabin.
2020 Jeep Comanche engine specs
Under the hood, the 2020 Jeep Comanche will most likely deploy a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel aka MultiJet2. Interestingly, the engine is currently available only outside the U.S. It generates 170 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain is connected to the Chrysler’s 9-speed automatic transmission.
The four-wheel-drive setup will be optional and Comanche will get a two-inch suspension lift. That and the 32-inch tall tires should additionally increase the ground clearance. From our point of view, Comanche will really look and act like the Renegade model. However, we can expect astonishing performances, various driving modes and much more.
2020 Jeep Comanche price and release date
The upcoming 2020 Jeep Comanche will most likely arrive in the first quarter of 2020. We still don’t know the price of the arriving pickup truck. However, we can expect an affordable price, around $25,000. The current Renegade model costs $20,000 so it makes perfect sense for the pickup truck to cost slightly over.
