While the world is anticipating a new Defender SUV model, Land Rover is preparing a pickup variant. The 2020 Land Rover Defender Pickup will make a debut in 2020 and will most likely compete with the Mercedes X-Class. The difference between those two is big. For instance, the Defender will come with two doors only and there will be no double cab models.
On the other hand, the 2020 Defender Pickup will offer numerous trim levels and even a plug-in hybrid variant could be on the cards. However, don’t expect all of the models and variants to become available from the first day of release. The interior and the price are the biggest mysteries so far, and this pickup will offer up to three engine options.
2020 Land Rover Defender Pickup exterior is the same as of Defender SUV model
When it comes to exterior design, the 2020 Land Rover Defender Pickup model will share a lot with the Defender SUV model. On top of that, when it comes to mechanics, these two will be almost the same. For that reason, visual details are very similar if not exactly the same. A new chassis will be on the cards and Land Rover could surprise us all with a more car-like approach.
This pickup truck reminds us of Honda Ridgeline, as both are combining modern design with great performances. Sadly, we must rely on rumors for now. But on the other hand, we know for sure that a single-cab version will be in the offer. A double cab and crew cab configurations are not in the plan for the 2020 model.
2020 Land Rover Defender Pickup interior look
One of the most intriguing categories is the interior for sure. The 2020 Land Rover Defender Pickup will draw a lot of styling cues, shapes, and features from the SUV model. Basically, the same design language should provide great comfort and an inviting cabin. Sadly, we cannot know how the cabin will look like.
Some things will have to happen so we can divide the truck model from the SUV model. We expect a modern interior with supportive seats and a stylish dash. Higher trim levels will for sure offer premium amenities such as leather seats and much more.
2020 Land Rover Defender Pickup engine offers
The upcoming 2020 Land Rover Defender Pickup will offer three powertrain choices. The British carmaker will make a 3.0-liter V6 a standard engine. This unit can create up to 340 HP and 335 lb-ft of torque. The optional engines will be diesel variants. That includes a 2.0-liter engine with four cylinders. This Ingenium powertrain generates 240 HP and 370 lb-ft of torque. As we can see, fewer horses and more torque are what diesel engine brings in. It is a clear attention from the Land Rover to make its new pickup a capable hauler.
Furthermore, another option could be a 3.0-liter diesel. This engine is produced by Ford and it can produce up to 250 HP and 440 lb-ft of torque. All three powertrain is available with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a little bit more for the fuel economy figures, along with the tow rating.
2020 Land Rover Defender Pickup price and release date
As we mention, the price is perhaps the biggest mystery about the 2020 Land Rover Defender Pickup. This pickup truck will go on sale probably in the first half of 2020, and the SUV model will hit the markets about six months earlier.
