The upcoming model 2020 Toyota Hilux will get some changes and it will go on sale next year. This full-size pickup truck will arrive with new trim levels which means more available choices for the customers. Significant changes are unlikely as the Hilux still rides on the current generation that was introduced back in 2016. On the other hand, the higher comfort level is confirmed and some exterior changes will happen too.
The performance is great and fun fact is that the Hilux pickup offers up to 17 different models, and 12 of them are using an automatic transmission. Moreover, 60% of sales included automatic transmission, which makes Hilux the first pickup to achieve that.
2020 Toyota Hilux exterior changes
The forthcoming 2020 Toyota Hilux will arrive with the same exterior as before. However, some slight change will happen. This pickup truck is offered in numerous cab and bed configurations, and the cab-chassis is very popular in Australia. The cab-chassis model comes without a bed and is available in regular, extended and double cab setups.
A 4×4 Work-Mate double-cab chassis is a four-door model that includes vinyl flooring, while the SR model adds the same configuration in extended cab version. Side steps, roll bars and even brush guards are available as standard.
When it comes to styling cues, the only tailgate suffered a slight update and the new headlights are added. Those headlights are narrower and more angular than before.
2020 Toyota Hilux interior will be comfortable and spacious
The 2020 Toyota Hilux will remain the same from the inside, however, Japanese carmaker confirmed a better level of comfort. Vinyl flooring will replace the existing carpet, a change that was much desired by the customers because vinyl floors are much easier to clean than the carpet. The dash that is almost the same as in the Corolla model will remain unchanged, just like the infotainment system touchscreen. Even the driver information screen inside the gauge cluster will stay put.
Standard equipment includes dual-zone climate control, power windows, USB ports and much more. The leather seats are optional on the base model and standard on higher trim levels. Cloth seats are surprisingly comfortable and the cabin is now more driver-oriented.
2020 Toyota Hilux engine variants
The approaching 2020 Toyota Hilux offers three drivetrain options, and all engines are four cylinders. The base unit is a 2.7-liter that can produce up to 164 HP and 181 lb-ft of torque. The mid-range engine is a 2.4-liter turbodiesel 147 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. The top-range unit is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel that is rated at 174 HP and 331 lb-ft of torque.
As mentioned, the automatic transmission is very popular Hilux’s choice and 12 out of 17 models will use the automatic gearboxes. When it comes to engines, all of them are offering both manual and automatic options, the same stands for an all-wheel-drive setup that is optional. Toyota decided to drop a gasoline 4.0-liter V6 due to a low sales.
Fuel economy and towing capacity
The new model with a 2,4-liter engine that comes with an automatic gearbox will give combined fuel economy figure of 36.2mpg. However, this same engine with manual transmission gives a little better number of 40.4mpg. As of the towing capacity, the 2020 Toyota Hilux will keep the same number like current one model a maximum 7716 lb.
2020 Toyota Hilux price and release date
Despite the slight changes, the price of an all-new 2020 Toyota Hilux is the same. Toyota’s latest pickup will cost $21,000 and higher trim levels with more loaded options could cost up to $40,000. The 2020 Toyota Hilux will go on sale in the first quarter of 2020.
